Installing WoW on Linux Ubuntu, so close and yet so far away?
Ok, I know its getting a little ridiculous, ive had to ask 2 questions on this already, but im finally SO close to getting it to working, and i ran into another wall. Ok, I got the game to install, install all the patches, and load up, and then something horrible happens…..the game loads up, i can hear the frost wyrm roaring, and my mouse changes to the "hand" but i dont have any video. I know that it isnt that my video card isnt powerful enough because it worked perfectly fine on this same computer when ran in vista (GeForce 8400)
Any suggestions?
(other than, "Get XP or Vista" or "Get a new video card")
Ive already read the Wine WoW wiki, ive installed wine and gecko, i wouldnt have got this far without it.
Also, keep the "Don’t play WoW" comments among other "types" of comments that i cant mention without being censored to yourself, this isnt /b/
Find more recent drivers for your video card. What does the Knoppix gaming edition have that isn’t installed in your box yet? Find repositories and apt-get them.

Good luck with this one. You’ve gotten a lot further than a friend of mine did. He eventually had to partition his drive and put an install of windows on it then read WoW from the linux partition. I wish you luck my friend and please let me know if you do get it to work. I would love to know how to do it myself.

Don’t know if you’ve been to it, but http://www.wowwiki.com/Wine has lots of info on how to get wow running under wine in linux

You may have to load non-GPL video drivers. Many vendors do support Linux with drivers, but they do not load by default. Check for third party (unsupported) drivers for the video card in the package manager.
Good Luck…
